Chester City manager Mark Wright insists he still gets the same sort of buzz at the start of a season as he did when he was starting out in the game.
The former Liverpool and England defender is busy preparing his side for Saturday's League Two opener at home to newly promoted Accrington Stanley.
He said:
"If you don't get excited and experience that special feeling when a new season gets underway, you really shouldn't be involved in the game.
"Everybody involved feels the anticipation and should be raring to go, and that's how I feel.
"Besides being the opening game, the match takes on an extra dimension because it's Accrington's first game back in the Football League since the 60s.
"There is tremendous media interest, and from our perspective we have virtually a new squad, which in itself creates anticipation.
"There is bound to be a large crowd, and the atmosphere should be fantastic.
"Our build up has been good, and the new play-ers are blending together quite well."
New signing Ricky Ravenhill and defender Sean Hessey will miss Saturday's game through suspension, while centre half Phil Bolland (shoulder) and midfielder Glenn Cronin (foot) are sidelined by injury.
