Liverpool remain hopeful they can persuade Sevilla to drop their asking price for full-back Daniel Alves.
Although the UEFA Cup winners' president Jose Maria Del Nido claimed he was "15 per cent" away from reaching an agreement with the Reds, Rafael Benitez is hoping one more round of negotiations can finally come to a positive conclusion.
Del Nido announced earlier in the summer that he wanted £12 mill. for the right-sided utility player, with Liverpool originally hoping to settle on an £8 mill. fee.
Benitez has long been seeking further competition in the right-back berth with Steve Finnan remaining largely unchallenged during the Spaniards' two-year reign at Anfield.
He tried to sign Cicinho from Sao Paulo in January, but he instead opted to join Real Madrid on a five-year contract.
One player Benitez did have high hopes for at right-back is Antonio Barragan, but he is expected to seal a £1.9 mill. move to Deportivo La Coruna without every really getting a chance at Anfield.
The Spanish club's president August Cesar Lenora said:
"All that remains for the move to be completed is for the documents to be signed."
