Djibril Cissé, the Liverpool striker, is on the verge of joining Marseilles on a one-year loan, according to the French club’s president.

“We are very close to an agreement,” Pape Diouf said. “I talk to Djibril every day on the phone. For him, he is already a Marseilles player.”

Daniel Alves, the Seville right back who can also play as a winger, is still hopeful of a move to Anfield, even though the deal appears to have stalled, while Liverpool have dismissed reports linking them with Joaquín, the Real Betis and Spain winger.
