Is Rafa starting to shift the Liverpool gaze towards South America?
With the confirmed signing of Fabio Aurelio and Gabriel Pallette and the rumoured though looking-less-imminent-by-the-minute move of Sevilla's Daniel Alves, not to mention the ongoing saga of Mark Gonzalez, Rafa's obviously moving towards a 'Latin Liverpool', which at the very least will produce some exciting football at Anfield next season.
It'll also make for some interesting exchanges in the dressing rooms as the main language shifts away from English.
Still, like most, I've put my faith in Benitez and, unlike Eriksson, he's not mental, so I'm nervously excited about what next season has to offer.
I enjoyed reading the following on Vital Football's Liverpool Reditorial:
However, he [Aurelio] may not be flying the flag alone for long. If Liverpool and Sevilla can reach a compromise on the transfer of right sided Daniel Alves, then it won`t be long before we hear Sevilla announce that, "Alves has left the building" , and another Brazilian will be on their way to Anfield.
Who knows, these signings might open the floodgates and we may come to find that Ronaldino and Kaka have been harbouring a secret desire to come and play for us.
However this is unlikely as neither of them would have quite enough quality to get into our midfield but they might come into the reckoning in the future, especially if we were to adopt the chelski transfer policy of doing away with our scouting department and just target players who appear in Pepsi commercials.
Aurelio won`t be the only South American with us next season as Argentinian Gabriel Palletta will also be joining up with his new team-mates when pre-season training begins at Melwood next week. The very highly rated young centre back with a knack for scoring goals, will be another welcome addition to the first team squad and along with Daniel Agger, will provide good cover for Carra and Hyppia.
However, the most exciting of our South American imports, Chilean Mark Gonzalez, must await the outcome of an employment tribunal next week before his Anfield dream can begin. Rafa has been raving about this lad and I can see why, I`m certain he will be a major player for us.
