Liverpool FC goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek’s collection of football memorabilia has been stolen during a burglary at his home.
Among the items stolen were his treasured Champions League final shirt and medal.
The footballer, who was instrumental in Liverpool FC’s victory over AC Milan in last year’s Champion’s League final in Istanbul, is said to be devastated by the loss of the items.
A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police said burglars struck at the goalkeeper’s home in Caldy, Wirral, some time last week while Dudek was visiting his native Poland. It was discovered on Monday by a friend of the footballer who reported the theft to police.
Dudek returned to the UK yesterday to discover his vast collection of sporting memorabilia had been taken.
His £65,000 black Porsche Carrera, a limited edition Frank Muller designer watch engraved with Champions League Winner, worth £6,000, and a £2,500 Rolex watch, were also taken.
Follow up:
Among his footballing memorabilia were more than 100 goalkeepers shirts, both international and Premiership, a World Cup 2002 Final shirt, a Worthington Cup Final Shirt, one pair of World Cup Final goalkeepers gloves with name on the wrist, and five pairs of Adidas World Cup gloves with name on the strap.
The thieves also took a red Liverpool limited edition shirt numbered one of 10,000, a Cartier men’s watch with square face engraved with 100 Years of Dutch FA, a gold Omega watch with gold face and black strap, engraved, and Gucci men’s watch with blue square face and blue strap.
Medals stolen included a Uefa Super Cup medal and a Worthington Cup medal.
