We signed off the home season with our 8th straight premiership victory and ten on the trot in all competition. Lets hope 2 more can give us 2nd place and more importantly a cup final victory.

There were no fewer than eight changes from the team that started at West Ham – but it made little difference.

Liverpool were in front after just 4 minutes and it was a brilliant goal from the improving Morientes. He keeps this up and may be we won't be seeing the last of him next month. The goal started as many have this season with a decisive through ball from Xabi Alonso which Morientes finished superbly past Sorensen after tricking and then turning Mellberg.

Minutes later, Crouch tried a overhead kick that went close. He really loves his overhead kick and one day he’ll get one in – so keep trying, 'Lurchy'.

There were other chances as well and it looked like we could have a bit of a rout and eat into that United goal advantage. However all thoughts of that stopped when just after the half hour Villa had a great opportunity to level it when the ball broke to Milner whose cross into the box should have been finished off but Barry’s nod down only bounce up over the bar.

Despite numerous chances that was it at the break. Baros, who got a great reception early on, did not come out after the break. His replacement Juan Pablo Angel almost made an immediate impact in the second half when he charged down Reina's clearance only to see his goal bound ricochet be cleared at the last moment.

Liverpool's response was instant and they had a great chance to increase their lead in the 51st minute when Cisse's cross was side-footed wide by Crouch. And they came forward again soon in a move that saw Morientes' volley force Sorensen into another fine save.

However it was Villa who got the next goal game when Gareth Barry equalised in the 58th minute. It came when Hughes got free on the left and just as it seemed everyone would miss his low cross, Barry was there at the far post to score into an empty net.

All thoughts of goal difference went out of our heads and getting the victory became the only priority. Luckily for us we did not have to wait long because Steven Gerrard made it 2-1 just 2 minutes later with his 20th goal of the season. Gerrard steamed in to score from Alonso's corner at the near post.

It was a great goal but there was better to come just 5 minutes later. Gerrard picked up the ball 25 yards out and put his boot through the ball hitting the top left corner of the net with Sorensen nailed to the spot.

That was about it but Reina was forced into a couple of good saves making sure there was no concern for the last 20 minutes or so.

And so this ends a successful home campaign with 15 wins out of 19 and only that blemish against Chelsea to blot to stats.

THE JENS LEHMANN 'TWAT OF THE WEEK' AWARD

I know its too easy but the Twat of the Week, month, season and quite possibly the century is that total fucking knob Mourinho. There is no disputing that Chelsea deserved the title and as the “special” one says himself –

"The premiership tables tells its own story".

Couldn’t agree more Jose – so that self same table tells you that Liverpool are much closer to you this year than last and the gap is closing with every game. Add to that 2 painful semi-final defeats at our hands, must inform you thatdespite all your billions, your not that far in front – so please shut the fuck up.

His attitude after we destroyed their hope of the double was all the evidence anyone needs that far from being 'special', this “breath of fresh air” is a childish spoilt little twat who just spouts crap at every opportunity.
